Got to the Monroe place that did most of the original brake work and the guy told me the front brakes were out of adjustment. No 35it sherlock! I had to turn them all the way down so i could drive there. He told me everything else looked fine but the vacuun booster was probably shot. He asked where i got it and showed him the reciept from when he installed it. he said there was no more he could do. I bit my lip and went to the next place down the road and this new guy went right after the master cylinder and adjusted the rod out of the power booster to take pressure off of the master cylinder valve. have to work it tomorrow and see what the new day brings. The secong guys opinion made sense.Wish me luck this is getting old.
When I first bought my truck ('79 F-100 no PB), the first thing that needed immediate attention was the master cylinder. I replaced the old tired one with a new one and bled the system according to all the documentation in my Haynes manual and the literature that came with the part. I went on a short test drive it seemed fine (~1). I went on a second test drive and got it on the freeway. The brakes began to lock up to the point that the tranny was freaking out and I couldn't go anywhere untill letting the brakes cool (no pedal travel down). I couldn't move the truck more than a few hundred yards before I had problems. I tried to releive the hydraulic pressure by bleeding the system - this helped but it only got me another 1/4 mile home each time I bled the brakes. Very pissed off and in a fit of rage..I yanked up on the brake pedal fearlously and I heard a snap. I don't know what I did, but a year and half later I've never had a problem with my master cylinder since... - my brake pads were fried though. Something must have been wrong with the "push" rod seating into master cylinder. I've lived your frustration. Let us know what it ends up being.
