Check Engine Light Newbie ?
I have a 2004 Excursion 4wd 6.0PSD (CA model - 03/04 build date) with 27,000 miles. I purchased it used last week and have put on about 800 miles on it. I put 400 highway miles on it on the ride home from picking it up doing 80mph and I got 17+mpg. The X is running great, but when I started her up this morning the CEL stayed on. It was in the mid 40s, not too cold. She ran strong, no apparent problems.
I checked the "odometer codes" and it kept showing "test" so I'm assuming there are no stored codes. My X came with the Monster exhuast, I believe it is a Catback one. It also had a factory flash, but I didn't write down which one it is.
I spent about an hour this morning going through old posts and one possible cause was the EGR. The little factory owners manual said it could be related to the exhaust/emissions and that the light would go off after 3 "cold start cycles".
This is my wife's vehicle so I won't know if the CEL has gone off until later today.
If the EGR has been "adjusted", would I be able to tell? I'm assuming it will be obvious if it is gone.
Any other suggestions??? Thanks!
The check engine light means there is something wrong with the emissions system. The light may go off, or it may not. If it does, the problem has fixed itself and you don't need to worry about it unless the light comes on again. If it stays on, take it to the dealer, it's in warranty.
I just talked to the wife and she said the light went off right after she left this morning.
Would the Monster exhaust cause a error to show with the emissions?
