Question Overhead Console

I have acquired an overhead console out of a 98 Mercury Mountaineer same thing as Explorer. I would like to install it in my 95 F150 regular cab. I saw that frederic did this with a Dodge Caravan console in his crew cab. Has any one else done this. One reason I like the explorer/mountaineer consolse is that it looks just like one out of a 92-96 Eddie Bauer Bronco but its a little shorter. Anyway, I would like to know how much room there is between the inner and outer roof, or how long of screw I can use to mount it. I definitely do not want a screw to poke out of the top of my truck. Also, if anyone has any usefull information on the wiring that would be appreciated. If not I'm sure I can figure it out. Where do they put the outside temperature sensors from the factory?

I think if you browse back a ways you will find fredrics post or his answer to someone else who did the same installation,I know I saw it somewhere on this site, wether its here or in the interior section.

Does anyone know how much room there is between the inner and outer cab sheet metal on the roof? I know there is some room in the back by the third brake light, but have no idea how much distance there is in the front between the two pieces of metal.

I asked the same question and the answer was about 1/2 " but I think 3/8 ~ 1/2 would be best just to be safe.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind and probably treat it as 3/8 max.

Can anybody help with figuring out the wiring? I need to know what wire is ground, switched power, constant power, the outside air temp and so on.

The connector pin out is what I need to know. The wires are all black and one is white. Can some one please tell me how to figure out what wire goes to what function. What I really need is a diagram of the pin outs on the connector. Some one has to know this.

Howdy TexasGuy:

Dallas Here, Anyway I accuried a 93 F150 that's in GReat shape and the elderly Gentleman who gave me the truck did a LOT of customizing. Wood mostly,,,,

He built an over head console with lights installed in it I will take some pics "when I get my camera back" and post them for ya....

I have to remove this console to install a switch "long story" and will be doing it this weekend and will let ya know how it's mounted......

I will try to take pics of the entire project for ya....
