After replacing several sockets and soldering in many feet of new wire, my 76 F-150 finally started to operate normally at the tailights except the back-up lights won't work. Not more than two weeks later and things have gone haywire again. Now the driver's side blinker will flash between the back-up light and the rgular flasher or not work at all. The brake light fails to come on in that side too. The passenger side (so far the best behaved) has begun to go out in the blinker and brake light functions. One other problem is the tailights don't work now either. While I'm at it, the most baffling thing to me is the last two older Ford trucks I've owned both had radios that turned on whenever the headlight switch was in the "on" position. I know this was not my fault as I'm a very adept at wiring stereo systems. Sorry for being so long winded, but these electrical woes are very baffling to me, not too mention annoying. Please help!!
Man I am having similar problems. Check the transducer that actuates the brake lights. Its on the pedal about 3/4 of the way up. Mine would stick closed, keeping the lights from coming back on. Other than that, nothing else has worked for me.
Good Luck
Aaron
[font color=red size=2]I had the same trouble with a radio once. Ford has a dash light wire that lights up the stock radio when the lights are on. I mistakenly hooked the new radio's power to that dash light wire, so the radio was only powered when the lights were on. I just had to find the correct power wire and swap them. Maybe yours is the same problem...;-)
Just a thought...

Don't forget that all the brake and turn signals run through the steering column. A piece of dirt or worn contacts can cause a lot of problems under the steering wheel.
Dave,

He says his taillights don't work either and that is a simple circuit from the light switch to the rear. My guess on this one would be a ground. If you have a meter, see if you have voltage at the rear on the tail light wires. Put the black lead of the meter on a ground location on the bed. If you have nothing put the black lead on a frame ground. If you get tail light voltage with the frame ground, run a ground wire from the bed to the frame, tying the two together.
