Diesel Kleen hurt MPG?

I have 4800 miles on my F250 FX4 6.0. Been running PS Grey since about 1800. I was only adding 8oz to 30gal and getting at least 13.5mpg with to/from work and around town driving.

Last two tanks I increased to 16oz which is the suggested amount. According to the LOM so far on 1/2 tank this time I'm getting 12.4. Been trying to drive the same. Both tanks were from the same Sunoco station and the same pump.

I will go back to 8oz on the next tank and see if it improves.

Anyone else notice this? I know in the acetone discussions I have read that when you add too much acetone to gas or diesel it hurts mileage. Same apply to PS?

Since I brought it up anyone tried acetone in diesel for improved mpg?

Try this for acetone:

In regard to your change in mpg with the PS- My guess would be that your truck isn't broke in yet (or even close). IMO keep using the PS. As miles on your truck increase so should the mpg. One FTE member recently posted his specific mpg data/numbers which appeared to be steadily increasing during the first 10,000 miles.

Mine seems to have been increasing until I doubled the amount of PS from 8oz to 16oz.

Don't think the benefit of acetone would outweigh the risk of damage.

Adding more PowerService should not make your mileage go down, but rather up due to more cetane in what your adding. To get the full benefits you need to run at the required amount and double dosage works to and gives better and quicker results.

Grey bottle for 3 seasons and white for anti-gel (winter). Your mileage could have differed due to different fuel cetane levels and/or buying at different stattions? I would run at double dosage and keep doing so in every tank. It will increase your cetane levels, lubricate your pumps and injectors and provide for a cleaner burn which will keep your EGR valve cleaner.

Keep using it and see what happens... hope it improves for you.

I don't believe you can get a true or accurate mpg reading on just a half a tank and especially using the onboard readings. I would take a couple of tanks and do hand calculations to really determine if the DFA is helping. Also the others are right you haven't even started to break in your engine yet. I now have 26500 on mine and the milage is steadily increasing so it is hard to tell if the DFA or miles is doing it.

Thanks wesran. I agree that neither 1/2 tank nor the onboard is very accurate. Just one of those noticeable differences that bugs you. When your truck is so new you watch closely and slight anomalies stand out more

06 6.0 crew cab f350 automatic, just turned 1100 miles. Tried ps white bottle and mileage readings went from 13.8 last tank to 15.0 since adding ps.

Mine's average at least 1mpg more useing the additives. Just in commuting to work. I use the minimum mix listed on the bottle.

There was a post a while back where someone actually spoke to the Powerservice people. He was told the dosage on the bottle was the minimum use amount. Doubling that amount would yield the best results. He said the same was true for Stantdyne. I have been using Stanadyne for about 4 months and am swithcing to Powerservice next tank. Powerservice is avaliable locally as is Stanadyne but the P.S. is a lot cheaper. Powerservice claims they have more of the lubricity stuff in their product??

I think part of my decrease is due to more shorter trips.

This is maybe not the best forum to ask this question but a local station just started selling BioDiesel. He has B5 that is ok to run according to my manual. Anyone know if you still use additives if you run B5? BD is supposed to lubricate much better. I think I will try a tank with and then without the PS and see what happens.

Just started to use Diesel Kleen, same as Drags, 16oz to 38 gl. But i beleive my milage is down since I just went to an aggressive tire. So I am not going to have a base line. The tire dropped the milage 1.5 to 2 mpg
