4x ques

I see that 4x4's had an optional front axle positraction in '72. I don't understand what good it would do. In 4-hi with hubs locked in would positraction be of any help?? If hubs were not locked in, wouldn't be of any help either???? How fast can you drive in 4-hi with locked hubs. Can I assume it is not a good idea to drive in 4-hi with hubs not locked in. I saw one for sale that was stuck in 4-hi. Owner said he drove around with hubs not locked so it was ok????? BTW starting to put together my '72 250 4x that I took apart last fall. Reman short block, rebuilt t/c etc. My first one so be on the lookout for my questions. Thanks

Positraction action lets both tires spin at the same time to allow for more traction instead of one wheel spinning when you get stuck. I have driven around 45mph with my hubs locked in hi on dirt no problem. Most people would want a locker in the front axle to get 100 percent positive traction.

a normal rear/front end allows the wheel with the least resistince to move faster, a posi-track allows both wheels to spin at the same rate ,making it harder to turn corners in normal driving
