Hi,
I am looking at an 03 ranger,4.0 L,XLT,4x4,ext cab, 35000 miles. Can I ask for your opinion's and some pro's and con's for this truck. Thanks for any help you can give.
Thanks for the input, i will be paying about 3000 under blue book. The truck has been checked by a ford mechanic and is in perfect condition. Anyone out there who owns an 03 or has any comments on them, please let me hear from you. Thanks
I have an '03 with the 4.0 L,XLT,4x4,ext cab, FX4 with 38000 miles. I bought it new and it hasn't needed anything other than regular maintenence. It's a great truck. What are the colors?
I have a 03 XLT 4x4 Extended Cab 4.0L with 46,000+ miles and I've had no problems with it. I do regular maintenance based on "Severe Use Guidelines" and it's been the best vehicle I've owned.
With the Auto Tranny and 4.10 rear end and I haul (with aftermarket Class III hitch) our 24' tri-pontoon boat, 13' trailer with 3 utility ATVs, and a friends Mastercraft ski boat (obviously not at the same time, for all the smart-alecks out there) and this truck doesn't flinch at these tasks.
In light off-roading it performs great - I don't abuse it, just farm use and mild play (a couple fields and mud holes here and there).
If it's an auto and you plan on doing a lot of towing, you may want to consider the fact that a lot of people on here have had the trans go out premature cause it cant handle a lot of towing. It should be fine though if you'r just going to drive it regular.
ok, I talked to my friend at the ford dealership, he said to bring it in for a checkup. The truck checked out perfect, it was put through the full diagnostic tests and passed all. The olny thing that was mentioned as iffy was the tire noise, the tires them selfs are in fine shape, just noisy. This i had already known from reading the forums here at FTA. Thanks to everyone who helped. I am very happy with the purchase and can now retire my beloved 1986 4x4 2.9L ranger, she served me well for more than a decade.
