Hi all I put a set of ball joints in the van today and when I pulled it down the dust covers behind the rotor were roted away. I called the dealer and they want 90 bucks for one side and 70 for the other.. Yeah thats right there only stamped sheet metal!! called all the bone yards around here they either don't save them or are rotted just as bad. Part of liveing in North east Ohio I guess. I would like to buy a pair if anyone has a set for sale that wouldn't mind shiping them right away. I would like to put the van back togeather asap. I was told by the Ford garage the 92 though 2003 would work. Thanks
Well, if you have a welder it is easy to adapt just about any dust cover to any other Ford vehicle because it is the size that matters. A lot of them you can just squish between the spindle and not worry about the holes lining up.
Many people run without them, especially those who go off road. They are suppose to be gravel/stone shields and you have to work pretty hard on the newer vehicles to actually get something stuck between your caliper and rotor. I do not think they provide an increase in brake cooling either. Their biggest benefit (imo) is keeping the rotors dry from oil/water from the road surface when driving at highway speeds.
I opted to run without them. I just thought if I could find a good pair I would replace them I was worried about keeping the anti lock sensors clean but they need cleand pretty often anyway so I dont think the covers help much. Thanks for your thoughts...
