I've got a '92 7.3 here and this truck won't start this morning. It fired up for about 2 seconds right away and now I can't get it to "fire" anymore. Yesterday I replaced
Starter
Batteries
Glowplugs
GPR
Fuel/Air filter
Where should I look next, Also All the rubber fuel lines look in good shape. Its also about 20 degrees outside and the truck is plugged in. I also tried to cycle the plugs a couple times and depress the accelerator.
Check to make sure you got power to the fuel shut-off solenoid at the injection pump with the ignition turned on. Check both electrical connections on top of the IP (drivers side) for 12 Volt power with the ignition on. Both should have power with the engine cold.
Are you blowing white smoke while you are cranking? If not, that is a good indication that you are not getting any fuel into the cylinders. Look for air leaks, check power to fuel shut-off solenoid on the IP.
Do a pressure and flow test of the fuel pump at the Schrader valve on the filter (FSS- fuel shutoff solenoid disconnected). Remove the tire valve core and hook a hose and pressure guage on it should see 4-6 psi when cranking. Then do a fuel quantity test same place, should see 1/3 pint in 10 seconds of engine cranking, route fuel to a suitable container with a hose.
If there is a problem with the lift pump and you are changing it, ensure the new pump comes with instructions as to correct installation procedure if it is the newer model pump with the almost straight arm.
Well that line has the bad reputation of bleeding back to the tanks,I plugged mine off cause it would draw half the fuel from the fuel filter and I would have to crank forever in the morning to get it started.Since I have also bypassed the mechanical lift pump and put in an electric FACET pump,no more problems!
