solvent cleaner fluid
I use mineral spirits from the local hardware store in the partswasher that I built. I am careful not to create sparks near it
, and keep the lid down when its not in use. It holds about 18 gallons and the solvent lasts pretty long before it loses its "cutting" ability. I designed into it a cascading system the fluid must follow before the fluid can reach the Little Giant pump. That helps most of the "stuff" settle out. After the pump, it all flows through a Luberfiner 750 filter (with the orifice removed) - talk about awesome dirt capacity!
Eastwood Co. advertises a water-based solvent, but I think it may be expensive and I have no experience with it.
