Help with 89 Escort.. IM stumped
I checked the PCV valve and dont believe it to be stuck shut, I havenet checked compression yet.
Heres the Kicker, the car runs like a Top, doesnt smoke, gets great gas mileage, has as much power as it did 40,000 miles ago, no noticable lag.
It starts quickly, idles cleanly, and just generally runs like a dream?
136,000 Miles, which is not a huge amount of miles.
Is there anyway this could POSSIBLY be anything other than piston ring blow by issues, could it be valve train related?
Thanks for any and all Replies.
It is possible you are running terribly rich and the oil is actually reversion coming back thru the manifold. Is the air filter dirty on the intake side or the manifold side? This doesn't sound likely and I lean to something causing the pressure in your crankcase forcing the oil past PCV.
Good Luck,
Jim Henderson
When it's idling, disconnect the air breather from the air cleaner, and hit the gas - do you see actual "blowby" (and/or oil) coming out the breather? If you pull the PCV valve from the valve-cover, cover it with your finger, is there vacuum there?
I have been told by ford dealership that there is actually no PCV valve on my Car, Only a Reed Valve that plugs into the air cleaner box, where it tees, one end goes to the valve cover, the other end goes to a vacuum..
If it was running poorly, then I would immediatly suspect rings, however its just running so dang well.
I hate to go spend 30 bucks on a Vacuum gauge, only to use it for 5 minutes, however its looking more and more like it may be the rings, Im running out of ideas.
