hi all, i have a 99f250 superduty 4x4, and i noticed that my pass side window motor rolls the window down real slow. it seems to roll up just fine, but down is not so good. i had the same problem before on my driver side, and i took out the window regulator and wound the spring tighter.... but, that is a major PITA. it still works great, but was wondering if i should do that to the pass side, or if it is caused by another problem? thanks !!
I have a 00 with the same problem, I think the passenger side window stiffens up due to not being used as much, putting more load on the motor, making it run slower.
I read somewhere about spraying silicon down inside the door via the window rubber strip, but I haven't done it yet
Just put some silicone spray inside the vertical parts of the window run. It works pretty good most the time.
The only other thing that could help is if the window had tree sap or something sticky on it. Then you should hit the glass with some windex or that foaming glass cleaner.
I have the oposite problem, my drivers window goes down real slow and sometimes stops when it is halfway down with my finger still on the switch?comes up no problem?you would think it would be the otherway?with gravity helping it down?anyway gonna try the silicone trick.
I had the same problem on my truck. Drivers side window would go down real slow. Especially when it was cold out. Sometimes it would stop about 1/4 of the way down. A real bummer at the toll booths! I tried lubing things up with silicone and it didn't really help much. I was farting around with it one day and found that the motor was getting really hot. I took it to the dealer and they said it was the motor. 3 bills and change took care of it.
thanks for the replies guys, glad im not the only one !! i will try the silicone trick before i take the regulator apart to wind the spring tighter.... that is a major pain to do. took several hours for me last time..... but of course, there were several beers involved, so it was bearable !!
same problem on my 2005 and have not tried anything yet. Could you give a more detail description to where I should put the silcone and what type to use. Thanks
I havent figured out how to get the door panels off. My drivers window is real slow and stops about 5" from being all the way down.
Is the door panel hel on by screws that I cant find? I thought maybe just clips but I couldn't pry the sucker off, was worried about breaking the panel.
madmedic
there is a screw behind the light cover, i believe that is the only screw
my 02 passenger side does the same goes down reeeeeaaaaaallllll slow
A: Slide the electric window controller on the door forward and up. (A flat, wide screwdriver will help this process.) Once removed, remove the screw underneath. Remove the reflector lens at the bottom of the door to expose the other screw. Remove it then lift the panel straight UP to remove. Be careful. Regarding the type of silicone and where to put it...
You are looking for spray silicone in an aerosol can. That should be available at a hardware store. Folks use it for window tracks, to help sliding glass doors work better, and sometimes to protect their tire sidewalls from UV damage.
You want to get this stuff into the vertical sections of the track the window travels up and down in. The easiest way to do this is to put the window all the way down, point the spray nozzle right in to where the window glass would be if it were in the up position at the top, and spray it while moving down until you reach the door sill. Keep it good and close to that weatherstrip to avoid a mess.
Another way to ease the strain on the regulator is to clean the glass with windex or a spray glass cleaner and then apply Rain X to it. As a matter of a fact, if you can't get that silicone spray, you might try to squeeze some Rain X into that track. Rain X is basically a liquid form of the spray silicone.
