Long time reader. First time poster. I recently bought a 2000 Ford Explorer not to long ago with 98k. Now it has 108k. But after a couple months of having the truck, I had to replace already 3 spark plugs in the number 5 cylinder. Last code I got was p0305, which is misfire in cylinder 5.
After replacing the spark plug, the truck runs fine. But its been already 3 months and the problem started again. I changed the spark plug again to no avail. I already changed the spark plug wires and all the fluids. I need some help please! I really like my truck but this is just strange. Thank you!
the last time i saw the plug, it actually had a crack going right through the plug. right by where the actual spark happens. i dont remember if it was black or sooty. I think it was.
If it's black and sooty that would imply rich. My first thought on that one would be a leaking injector.
If the insulator was cracked, my question is "do you have a problem with engine knock?"
*The color and condition of that plug will tell a story. One is being black, which means rich. Clean and nearly like new (assuming low miles) suggests no fuel or spark. A very light tan to slightly white is what you want to see. I'm a bit confused by the sequence of events but it sounds like you're lacking spark on #5 or there is an injector probelm on that cylinder.
