Today when I got home I was pullin' a 7500# case uniloader on a trailer and went to back it over by the barn and when I went to shift into reverse it was kind of hard to shift. It freaked me a little bit so I attempted to shift again ,I was able to shift but it was tough. And when I started to back up it hardly moved and shuddered like crazy. Its a 05 450 6.0 with auto tranny. I guess I'll have to take it to the shop this week, any idea what is wrong it has 13,499 miles on it and 65 % of the time it has a trailer behind it 6500#- 20000#. The reason I bought this truck is I went through % e4od trannys in my 92 f-350 in 104,000 miles. PS I never shift while moving.
My 03 4x4 automatic 54k miles just had the same troubles.
It would do it all the time, not while just pushing loads around.
Mine had a hard time going into "R". It would jump in and out while backing up.
I took it to Fords and they told me the "Valve body" needed to be replaced. It was about $1200 to do it.
I ended up taking it to a reputable tranny place, and he looked at the tranny pressures. (the same pressures that Dealership said were fine) He found one of the pressures was fluxuating real bad. So that the "valve body still needed changed, but he was a bit cheaper.
Then I got lucky I think. He called a favor from someone, and I did not get a whole valve body, he just got the solenoid or part that was bad. Dealerships don't sell them, but they should. I ended up paying $300 for the part the labor, the troubleshooting, and an oil and filter change.
