offroad-ability of the inline 6

ive got a 93 150 4x4 with the I6 and a 5speed. 4" lift and 33x12.5s and stock gearing at the moment. i got 3.08s now and when i offroad i always stay in 4low and it tears it up, if i am goin up rocks or need to creep put it in first gear and it crawls decent, or put it in 2nd and hammer it through the mud and it pulls people out great.
this week im getting 4.10s and limited slip front and rear so im hoping that will be a good gear with the 5speed.

i have an 89 stright six with stock drive train and suspension. but i have headers and put some injectors from a 302 in there. i also put a throttle body from a 302 on there. as we all know form hot rod 101. more air and fuel means more power.it males 150 hp stock and with them headers she makes 172.5hp according to headmans 15% more horsepower gaurentee. but with a set of bald cooper discovers that i ran all summer and some luck i got through almost every thing the trucks with 33's and 35's did. i made the mistake of getting a set of firestone wilderness a/t's and got stuck in a hole ive been through many times. but ive done almost all my wheelign in 4 high and in frist or second with a 5 speed and got through it all. i have 3.55's in her and she seens to get the job done. she also pulled a oak that was at least 12" in dia. out with one problem. but with that 302's injectors and throttle body it seems like shes got more *****. but in the future shes getting a comp cam from summit and gonna be bored and stroked. (if i can find the parts to stroke it) but i cant wait to get the money to do that. over all a stright six is excellent in mud. also it does better brake torques than my dads 302!

In stock form (with lift), an F-150 with a 300 is plenty capable of wheeling with 35's. So you don't need to buy this or that, lift it enough to clear the tires and have fun.
Oh really? That must be why my differentials have held up so long with posi front an rear running 18-39.5 Boggers...
We have already had this discussion, and I'm not typing it all out again.
Been running 15 x 12 Aluminum wheel's for year's now...
Definitely agree there
The M5OD SUCKS off road, but others are good.
Amen on that!
Not true for some.
Re-Read above....

Aussie locker makes a great 8.8 locker and it's a breeze to install.
Very easy of the wallet also compared to some of the other products out there.

The cheapest way to wheel off road is almost stock. You can have just as much fun stock as the next guy with a big block and 44" boggers. By adding 33" tires and locker or even a limited slip, you should be able to go pretty much any place you want. I know I've been suprised at some of the places I used to take my truck.
I also have a 1978 Bronco 4x4 with 7" of lift, 38.5" Swampers, a spool, full rollcage and built 400CI bigblock and tranny. My point is I have just as much fun it my pickup thats not near as built as I do in the Bronco. The Bronco just gets a few more looks from the chicks lol .

I am very satisfied with the off highway capabilities of my 300 and the truck it sits in. I can crawl through just about anything you can think of (within reason) and it does just as well as any V8 powered rig out there. f-150_38.5s...I have seen a few 351m/400s in action, they have to be one of the toughest V8s to kill. They have gobs of low end torque. I was at a mud run one weekend last summer, there was a guy with a 78 F250 4wd with 40" swampers with a bone stock 351m C6 and 3.54 gears...yes 3.54s with 40s! He was running that bog all night carving it deeper and deeper, until he got stuck. He just started hammering the throttle, redlining it and the dropping it into drive from neutral!! OMG he was mean to that truck, after a few minutes he blew one of his radiator hoses...the temp guage was reading almost 260! They ended up pulling him out with a tractor, back to solid ground. After repairing the hose and refilling the rad he was back at it only to get stuck again! By now the engine had developed a slight knock which had steadily gotten worse as he revved it harder. After being pulled out for the last time he decided he was going to blow that motor up. He sat there in neutral with his foot on the floor for 5-10 minutes racing it...trying to blow it up! You could see the manifolds glowing red hot through the fender wells! He never could get it to seize, he ended up using that truck to plow snow this year!
