I had one of those free diagnostics places the other day when my check engine light came on. It said that my egr valve was bad. So i replaced it and guess what about 5 min. after i had them erase that code it came back on. Then 2 days later my abs light comes on and then all four wheels locked up on me. Any comments on what might be wrong would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Bobby
It is VERY common for folks to see a code and replace the part that is associated with that code. It is equally common for that to not fix the problem.
I believe that Autozone draws code for free so that they can sell a bunch of unnecessary parts.
I saw that it said insignificant flow on the monitor but the abs just came on then the wheels locked up. Its only done it once. If the egr valve wasnt bad then what would the problem be?
I've never had the pleasure, but from what I read, the EGR ports need cleaning. As far as the ABS problem, we need more info, ie, blinking ABS light, light on, but dim...
Insufficient EGR Flow Is code P0401. If that was the code you can run the following test to see if the EGR Ports are clear.
Remove the vacuum line from the ERG Valve and cap the hose. Start the engine and let it idle. Then apply vacuum (outside source) to the ERG Valve. The engine will stumble or stall if the ports are clean. If the engine continues to idle without change the ports are blocked and need to be cleaned. I cleaned mine in about an hour it's not that big of a deal on the 4.6L you did not say what engine you have.
You will have remove the ERG throat and clean them from the inside. I used a small drill bit by hand to get the carbon out of there.
