Brake conversions, 4x4.
I have a 69 F-250, 4x4 with a dana 60 front axle. Closed knuckle front end (drum brakes). I have heard that you can use the brake backing plates from an International front axle 4x4 to increase the shoes to 3" wide from the fords 2 1/2". You would need the wheel cylinders,springs,drums,power brake booster, and maybe the proportioning valve. This conversion is suppose to be as good as converting to front disc brakes (cheaper too). The hard part is finding International parts. If going to disc brakes you have to find the correct front axle. Dana 60 w/ disc will run up to $3,500. from Advance Adapters (if they have it,there is a waiting list last time I called). You also need the correct years, 77-79. 76 is different, a one year type, or so I am told. Anybody have any info in this subject matter? In need of some tech help!
