I have a 1969 F100 with about 112,000 miles. The truck has the
straight 6, 240 ci. engine. My oil pressure is low and I have been told I need to replace the oil pump. How difficult is this job? A couple of shops quoted me from 350 to 400 for this. Maybe I can do it myself and safe some money. Thanks for any help or feedback.
Changing the oil pump itself is not a very hard job, but getting to it in the first place can be a trick. I am assuming that the 240 is basically the same as the 300. first off you will need to drain oil and remove oil pan. the pump will be directly below the distributor. After it is loose this is where it gets tricky. you will have to jack the engine up about 3 or 4 inches to make room for the oil pan to slide out. if it is a rear slump pan than it will come out the back. if it is a front slump than you will probably need to remove the radiator to bring it out of the front. after the oil pan is removed it is simple just unbolt the old one and replace it with the new one.
The torque on the oil pump to engine block bolts should be about 15 ft lbs.
oil pumps are preetty inexpensive too. I paid $40 for mine
