my headlights flicker on and off periodically. anyone have any ideas on what it is? i replaced the dimmer switch and that wasn't the problem.... thanks in advance
they will flicker if the CB in the switch trips from an overload, IF your running halogens on an old switch it probably can't handle the amps. A new over the counter switch will fix it or you can go with a relay system to power the lights with the original switch. I've had good luck just replacing the switch .
I didn't consider the amp draw until you mentioned it above.
I put them in my '78 and they sure are a bright white
My Eyes were never any good, so I started converting my trucks, cars and motorcycles to halogen when they first came out, so I figured this problem out years ago. Back then you couldn't buy a better headlight switch so we would wire in a relay for high and a relay for low beam and it solved the problem. SOme cars do it and some don't, all my mustangs needed the upgrade, but I only remember doing a couple of my pickups. Must have got lucky on most of them
I had Silver Stars on my 'Trep, not the same as the old trucks I realize, but they only seem to last about a year in the 'Trep. Right now I have one Silver Star and one OEM, there is definitely a difference in the colour of the light. I don't know if the same durability problem will be there with the single rounds. I used the relay trick to help a bit on the truck, seems to working ok thus far. I don't know if I'm going to go with the Silver Stars on the truck though, just the thought of having to replace them yearly.
