My 84 F250 4X4 / 6.9 has a shift kit in the valve body that is damn annoying to say the least. Is the valve body for the C6 that is in this truck any different from a standard C6? My friend it might be different from a standard C^ because it is diesel. I want to get a replacement valve body, one that does not have a shift kit installed in it.
TIA
Todd
A shift kit generally only improves the shift. As in, it will make a more positive, quicker shift. It may change the rpm of each shift also but is a considerable improvement over a trans sliding into each gear. What is the trans doing that is so annoying?
The valve bodys will interchange, but the one for diesel is slightly different internally. I do know there is an upgrade kit that can be installed in a gas C-6 that changes it to the diesel trans. It's nothing more than a few springs, check *****, instructions on enlarging a few passages.
The annoying things it is doing is SLAMMING into second gear, and downshifting everytime you step on the pedal even a little bit. It drive like a hunk of s%#t! LOL So what do I need to ask for when searching for a "normal" valve body? Can I get one from a tranmission core place, or should I go through a trans shop?
TIA
Todd
you need to adjust the downshift rod. it should only move at almost full throttle. a shift kit adjusts the upshift sequence, not the downshift. and it is better t have the trans shift "hard" than a "soft" slip into gear. with a diesel that slips into gear, it will tear up the clutch packs in the trans, due to the excessive torque of the engine
