Just had the ranger in the dealer for some work and an oil change. I left with a few questions unanswered though. There was a rattle with the accelerator when cruise was active and going up a hill. Something on the pedal made a rattling noise, unless I put my foot on the pedal. Is there any fix out there? They put a 2 oz weight and that made it not as bad. Would replacing the accelerator pdeal ***'y fix it? Dealer seems less than happy to do that. Also, when i click o/d off and hit the gas, the rpms go up as usual, but if i hit the gas, the transmission seems like it is slipping, then the rpms go down about 200 rpms and stay there. Is the transmission capable of sensing slippage with od off and throwing the o/d light into blink mode? The rpms rise like it is slipping a bit, then they go down, almost as if the transmission is grabbing finally, similar to a manual, if you downshift and slip the clutch while hitting the go-pedal then fully release the clutch. My final question is, is the glove box light harness in hidden on my '05, or is it totally gone. Anyone know if i can add one and have a PN?? Thanks
Use the plastic type zip ties on the accelerator pedal cable end. That should solve the rattle prob for you.
As for the tranny , I'd check the color and odor of the tranny fluid. If it is slipping it will be brown and smell like it's burned. If it does smell bad and look brown then the bands are probably slipping.
I'd just go to the junk yard and get you the light setup for the glovebox. Just tap in the power on the cig lighter wiring.
Just my two cents!
Checked fluid. Looks like cranberry juice and smells like nothing. I assume even the slightest slipage will cook the fluid quick. Thanks for the reply...
I took the wife's Explorer with the OD out this morning , and it shifts kinda weird too when it shifts either into or out of OD.
Hopefully someone chimes in that has the OD tranny also. Maybe it's common? I really don't drive the wife's Explorer that much , so I don't notice it I guess.
Let us know if you find something else out.
I guess maybe it's a characteristic? I don't remember the expedition doing this...then again it had a different transmission. Just a bit weird. It feels like it is slipping when i hit the gas, then it slowly locks up. only does it when o/d is turned off once. after i hit the fuel pedal a second time, it is locked out. Very weird, although the fluid looks really good. I was going to compare it to my '03 and '05 explorers, only i couldnt' find the dipstick. After about 15 minutes i realized it is maintenance free.
