I had the pleasure today of seeing a 47-F5 that looks like it came off of the showroom flour almost, this is owned by the son of the original purchaser, The orgininal engine has been replaced with a 8-RT, the original engine is on the floor beside it, this has a grain bed on it with original stock racks sitting beside it, the only time it has been outside is when it was in use. This person does not realy want to sell this but would possibly entertain an offer to buy,how would a person come up with a fair and ecquitable price? Also the reason I saw this was he has two flat head engines for sale one of which is the original 59-A engine that looks like the heads have been off, head bolts are loose, and an 8BA engine that looks complete except for carb, what would these two engine be worth? Regards Keith

The engines, if they are good cores for a rebuild are worth anywhere from $300-$700 US, depending on how complete and condition. The problem is location, flatheads can be found around the country, so most people won't go through the expense of shipping a 500 lbs block of iron, it's just not worth it. I've seen good flatheads (needing rebuild) on eBay with a $200 price on them not selling, mostly because of the shipping costs. You can probably get the most money if you can find a local buyer.
The 59A is the nostalgic motor, looks great with those center outlet heads, but the 8BA is actually the better motor, had some engineering advancements the 59A didn't. But they are about worth the same.
