Ok ive been going out with this one little lady from colorado. That now lives in Oklahoma. For a couple of months. And im used to the southern way of saying "i love you" when you say by or w/e.
Do you yankees just no do this. Becuase at first it freaked her out? Thats just the way i was brought up. It freaked her out when i acted like a gentlemen aswell. Opened doors. Scooted her chair out and in. ETc.
Are there only a very few of us gentlemen left around? Seriously>?
I was brought up to say ,"I love you," unless you actually mean it. So the I love you goodbye as a general rule isn't always a southern thing. I have heard it, but I'm not so sure oklahoma should be considered southern.
The southen gentleman thing, it isn't lost, just not like it used to be. I've lost some girls to them saying, "you treat me to nice." Open doors, pull out a seat, things like that no say you don't respect a woman as an equal. Opening doors for a woman is now even considered sexual harrasment. Welcome to the new millineum. Treat a woman like a man, or you could find yourself in a lawsuit. If I even open a door at a restarunt up here, women look at me like a jerk.
I was born in texas. But owell. Where i live is considered backwoods. And if you look at the line that divided the south and the union. It goes along the red river after dipping down the ok/mo border and then cuts back up through oklahoma city area.
W/e tho
Imo women dont want to be treated like men. If they did. They would b-ch about the seat being up or you not paying for the meal. Buying them jewelry. They would get into trouble more....
IMo that womens right thing was all about more control over the men ourselves...if you think about it....us men are still monkeys...and women are our masters...unless your gay....
I was taught to do all that stuff, and I still hold to it. I grew up in PA, but by the time I left a slew of them thought I was a Southerner. I didn't care. Respect is respect.
There are still plenty of courteous and respectful folks around, but they're getting scarce in the cities anymore.
Whenever we travel in the southern tier (the politically correct way of saying "below the mason-Dixon line), we're taken by the good manners. The Northwest isn't exactly rude, mind you- you have to go to NJ or NY to understand what that word really means
But... the "I love you" thing probably did catch her off-guard. Where's that daughter of mine - we need an opinion from the other side of the fence.

This is REALLY LONg but whatever.
I'm right here to save the day dad!! Ok, for starters, girls love it when you are polite and pull out chairs and stuff like that. This girl sounds like she hasn't been on many dates or that she has been in bad relationships. When girls get spooked or something like that they haven't been treated with the respect they want in a relationship or they have older brothers, j/k. I would be careful if she does have a older brother though. Be careful you don't spook her to much cause it might be a bad thing, but anyway. But it sounds like she hasn't had many people treat her with respect and/or be so polite.
But I say this and I will say this only once, NEVER say I love you until you are completely sure she loves you back. That will scare her away fast!! Girls don't like it when you get as serious as love in the beginning of a relationship. They don't like that kind of commitment that early in a relationship. Girls will start to freak out and feel like you are pushing them into a sichuation that they aren't comfortable with like ,just to say it sex or something like that.
Basically, the easiest way to lose a girl is to say "I love you" to soon.
But the easiest way to win a girl over is to be a complete gentlemen.
My work here is done. If you have anymore questions ask. I knew there was a reason I joined this sight, hehe.

i think the southern gentleman is a dying thing too. im nice to females in school and regular social engagements and i get looked at like a dang alien with 27 heads of something. people always think the youngin holding the door is just a dang juvenile delenqwit is just trying to play a pratical joke on someone.
I knew a girl told me I was too nice too. and she had dumped a bullrider from Arkansas for being "too nice." I met her working at a country club in the city, go figgure. but all my friends are from the country and they apreciate manners. guess it just depends where you roll. Tell her you're treating her like a lady, it's how we do things down here. I could see the "I love you" thing being a little forward for her. my sister and her husband didn't say "love" like that till they were engaged, and I don't plan on sayin' till then either.

Never said love until, "will you marry me" came out of my mouth. I've done that twice, once I was burned, she started dating her ex, that beat on her, on drugs, and cared nothing about her son.
I'm not saying all women don't like being treated like a lady. Most back home DEMAND being treated by a lady. Thats below the mason dixon, and east of the Mississippi. Now up north of that line, its a diffrent world. I've been looked at like a idiot or a crazy person when I open the door for a younger woman. Most older women appreciate it, and say thank you.
Its the world we live in now. Like I said, if you review your sexual harrasment policy at most buisnesses, they'll say you can't open a door for a woman.

The reason that is cause at school, guys are real jerks to most girls at school.
That doesn't surprise me that they look at you that way. Guys are like that especially in High School and also, guys do play a lot of practical jokes.
I love being a girl on this site, solving all the boys problems. It's kinda fun!! lol
