2.8l valve lash

Anyone know the valve lash for the ford 2.8l v6(made in germany)? Also this engine has a terrible nocking sound... I mean the nock seems to come from everywhere. I think it may be in the valve train, I think the valve lash is excessive... although, maby there is a problem with the keepers. The engine is in a 79 mustang. Maby its something loose between the trany and engine(auto trans)

Anyone have any good links to info on this engine, or suggest a good manual?

Intake .014/exhaust .016 cold.

While you're in there, take a look at the rocker shafts. Slide the rockers sideways on the shaft against the springs and look for wear. If it's severe, it could be the source of your noise.

Well that was not it(was in need of adjustment though) Must be a rod or broken crank.... or maby something loose between trans and engine. Guess I will have to tear into it

How's your oil pressure? Do you have a mechanical gauge on the engine? Does it sound like it might be rod knock?

Yeah the oil preasure is real good, Would it be possible that a wrist pin is loose, or a piston has lost its skirts? What about a bent rod? Its my little brothers car/engine... and even with the knock he ran it up to 5000rpm wile driving! (should of took a clip of it, i have never heard an engine knock that loud).

You may be on to something there. A piston with a cracked skirt will make a hellacious knock like that, and generally does it all the time.. Wrist pin knock can sound a bit like a bearing knock, you have to sort of feather the throttle to get it to do it, or put it under a load.

More than likely it's a rod, normally it's #1 or #4, as they furthest from
the oil pump. Knocking is a sound you don't want to hear from a 2.8L...

Piston/skirt/wrist pin noises usually decrease when the spark plug wire to that cylinder is removed.

Yeah I hope to pull the engine sometime soon, and tear into it.... see whats what. One guy at work said maby a bearing turned, and climed onto the other one, and the piston is hitting the head!!!.... I still can't belive it took 5000rpm.

Speaking from experience, your knock COULD be coming from the upper timing gear. If that motor was buzzed alot by the previous owner, it can break and give the ILLUTION that the engine is about to blow up. I found this out by pulling an angine (that I buzzed on a regular basis) only to begin tearing it down and finding a broken upper timing gear. On a lighter note.... you wouldn't be intrested in a slightly enjoyed performance camshaft????? It's a Crane Fireball part number 432111???? it's a wild lil number and it makes AWESOME power. let me know and maybe we can get something cooking. coldnwpg@hotmail.com

F150 hybred... I would not doubt if its something like that... Its actualy my brothers motor... Would I have to change out the valve springs with that camshaft?

It would be an idea to change the spring. Myself, I found that the factory springs did work well. The only drawback is when you buzz it... for some reason, the valves tend to float at around 7500 rpm. The spring kit for that is nothing more than a small block "rev kit" so parts are cheep. and I believe the retainers are also for a small block. The only drawback to the necessary spring work is that you gotta get the heads machined for those springs. After that, the rest is childs play. Let me know if you want it... and I'll be sure to give you a great deal on it. I can gaurantee that there are no problems with it and no appreciable wear to it. I ran it for some time, but it only ever saw synthetic oils and I do have the original cam card for it too. Dennis.

f150 hybred, I took a look at the specs on the crane cams websight. Do you have any idea of fords original cam's specs would be? That seems like quite a hot cam.
