So I go out to the ex today and open the door to find a HORRRRID smell. Turns out there is a leak somewhere in the back. I think it is in the doors because the whole cargo area is wet and I don't know how else it could reach the whole thing!? Are there any general problems people have with leaks in the rear doors? I guess I'm just going to have to take it to the dealership and see what they say... Hope its not going to be too $$...
My 04Ex was getting wet in the back, pass side under the mat from the tailgate to the back of the side door. I thought it had to be coming from the large 1/4 window (mine open) BUT after two warantee trips to the dealer, 1st time over night, 2nd time 4 days, it was bad factory sealing underneath, in the wheel well, Water was being forced UP from tires when it rained. My dealer uses an outside contractor that only does leaks. They stuck with it and fixed it. They also told me some EX's leak on the roof from the rack mounts. Hope your dealer knows his stuff. GOOD LUCK
Any idea what the name of the "leak" place was? Thanks for the tip!! I'm hoping for something a little simpler as I'm pretty sure it is leaking from a stand still, not just while in motion...
I fixed mine. Was easy and was a significant leak.
The X has two body welds on the very top. They are about 1-2" wide. Where the weld/caulk seam ends at the back, a pinhole had formed. This pinhole allowed a lot of water to seep into the back, cause all of my carpet to get soaked. I had to remove the entire rear carpet and it dripped on the garage floor for a week. I placed it over a couple of saw horses and turned on my ceiling fans to dry it. Oh yeah, also on the back side of the felt is a thin layer of plastic. I removed this to allow the air to get to the felt and allow it to dry.
For the fix, I mixed up some 5 minute epoxy resin and applied to the pinhole on top. It has been fixed now for over a year and no more leaks. I have heard of others finding this same problem.
Step on the rear bumper, and inspect the top real closely. Look at each seam on the top on both sides where the sides meet the top panel and see if you find the same thing. Good luck!
