it look's like i may be useing an electric fan on my 49, the radiator is going to be close to the water pump . i went by the measerment that cpp gave me on the engine mount's. the valve cover's are about one half inch from the fire wall. anybody else useing an electric fan on their truck ? thank's
I use one for the 351C in my 56. It is a 16" 1600 cfm straight-blade unit, mounted directly to the stock radiator without a shroud and thermostatically controlled. Works great. 100+ degree weather and stop-and-go traffic are no problem.
If and when I add AC, I will go to a stronger (2000 cfm) S-blade electric fan.
I'm putting fan(s) on my 54 F100 with a 351W without a shroud. I just put a set of dual fans on an 83 Cutlass, and it runs a lot cooler than with the clutch fan. On my fans, I have a 3 position switch, it has ON(auto with thermostat), OFF, and FULL ON(on all the time no matter the temp). It is the same way we put an electric fan on my buddy's 88 Fox Body Mustang drag car.
I have an electric junk yard fan out of a 70s Dodge van cooling my stock but recored flathead radiator. It's getting tired so when I complete some of the work and actually get to drive it again I'll probably put a Spal or some more modern variant on it - I think it's a 16 inch unit and it worked better than the original fan on the flatty. It's a little noisy but too obnoxious.
Now Vern that's just not nice........besides all the cat gook would be real hard to clean offa nice Ford engine!
Leaks
Not sure about a nice ford engine, but I can tell you how hard it is to clean cat off the engine of an 80's Grand am. I can elaborate if the need arises.
