My IAC got gummed to the point the truck wouldn't run, and it never tripped the CEL.
I think there is a procedure for testing the IAC with a multimeter, but I don't know what it is. I think it is in the Haynes manual, among others. Might want to pick one up if you don't have one.
On my '94 v6 3l 5-spd
I had a similar problem it was intermittent and didn't cause a CEL until it got really annoying . It turned out to be the TPS (throttle position sensor) cost about 40$ and is easy to replace. It did log a code after doing the throttle system check from the Haynes manual. If your truck is newer than 95 then go to an Autozone... and they will read the codes for free. If it is pre OBD-2 then follow the instructions in the Haynes manual you will need an analoge multimeter(the one with the dial "not Digital") and some wire to make the jumper's. It's all there in the Haynes. Good luck.
Thanks, truck is a 96, and I'm in Ontario Canada ,no Autozone....I have a headlight aiming issue also so will have to go to a shop and will get them to check it ....Mike
