<DIR>I'm looking for new tires and rims for my F-150 1986 supercab, 4x2. How big tires can I use without modification, like using a lift kit or cutting wheel arches? Will 35" fitt?
Try this link. If it doesn't work just search for off road unlimited. Superlift use to have a good chart for this. I could not find it on their website though. According to this chart 33's are the biggest you should go with out modifications. I think the tire needs to stay 12.5 inches wide or narrower to avoid hitting the fenders.
33's will fit, but I wouldn't recommend hitting any bumps too hard or carrying a heavy load. Consider a body lift - it'll only cost about half as much as the price difference between the 33's and 35's.
Thank you for your answer. You see I live in Norway and the norwegian dmv do not give approvals without TUV documentation for the parts. But since this is an american truck, there are no TUV documents for any parts within EU-countries. We are not even members, but we follow their rules like idiots. Ergo, a body-lift is out of the question How are the rules and regulations for modifications in the U.S.?
I have a feeling that it's not that difficult for you?
I live in Kansas. It's near the center of the U.S. If there are any emissions laws, nobody enforces them at all. I have a 460 big block in an 86 mustang. I drive around everywhere. No problems. In the county I live in, a vehicle bumper can't be any higher than thirty inches above the road and can't be lower than four inches. Modified bumpers are allowed to get within the legal limit. The rules are very easy going here. I read magazines with authors writing a lot about how emissions and modification rules are very strict. I like living here.
