MSD question

I am finally finishing the re-wire on my 54 F-100 and I thought It would be nice to clean up the iner-fenders. So I am thinking about mounting my MSD that is now mounted inter-fenderly vetically on the fire-wall next to where the heater motor comes through. Anyone know if mounting it vertically will damage anything internally. Andy

I assume by MSD you are talking about one of their ignition boxes. If so, there is nothing internal that will be hurt by mounting it vertically. They are all solid state and won't give a hoot which way they are mounted. They will care, however, if they are too hot or too cold, so don't mount it really close to your exhaust or something (too hot is generally when the box gets over 200-250 F). By really cold we're talking below -40 deg, so that's probably not much of an issue. If by MSD you mean an ignition coil, then the only issue I could see would be if it were an oil cooled unit that was very high performance (sort of a lame design, oil cooled coils are typically, low performance units). As far as I know MSD doesn't make any coils this way so that really shouldn't be an issue either. Anyway, those are my thoughts on the matter. I've run MSD ignition boxes every which way and have yet to have a problem.

Thanks for the info on the MSD. I quess I should have made myself a little clearer the box is what I was wondering about. Thanks again. -Andy
