I just purchased a 77 f250 460. The belts, pretty new, squeal when you get up to 60-65 mph. Any way of stopping this. Belt dressing does nothing. I am contemplating new belts, but thought pulleys may be problem(156K). Let me know f any recommendations. Also, could the previous owner have them too tight?
Had a similar problem on 75 E350 Motorhome w/ 460. Ate belts very fast. changed ps pump, tried to align pulleys in various ways but still had same problem. Finally installed a fan clutch(original lacked it). No problems since.
what also works good is candle wax. find an old candle and you can do this with the engine running or with it off. if you don't have alot of room i would suggest rubbing the candle on each side of the belt with the engine off. i have alot of room i can do it with the motor running. just rub enough on both sides of belt and run it. More than likely it's the fan clutch. I have the same motor, and it aquired the same problems. It's not the pullys, I put brand new L&L billit pulleys on mine because of the vehicle I put it in and it still squealed. My suggestion is new fan clutch, or just scrap the fan all together and put an electric fan on it.
