E4OD - yes or no
I have a '94 F150 with a bad E4OD. It'll cost around 2 grand to get it fixed. I'd like to swap in a later model E4OD from a salvaged wreck. A guy at the salvage yard told me I could only use a '94 tranny, cause later models have different "plugs & stuff". I am a reasonable mechanic, and would like to know if it's possible to put a later model E4OD into an earler model truck without a lot of goat-ropin". Yes or no.

heard the newer 95 and up e40d's have different solenoid bodies and thus the connectors plugs are different also the engines ecm/brainbox is different,thats what i have been told can't confirm ,look for a 94trans with same plug connectors

Another '94 would have the same type mileage & wear - plus, it would have all the weaknesses I've been reading about in the '94 models. I would like to avoid that by getting a newer version. If it's only a matter of splicing on some different connectors, I can handle it. Would a different controller be that much different? Could I just swap out the controller too?

you can upgrade the center support among other things in the 94, that is one of the upgrades done in the 95,just add an extra trans cooler and install a temp guage, make sure it runs cool,,, have fun finding a donor 95 with the ecm and harness
