I have a problem with my 03 expedition that the dealer cannot resolve - an error message "check charging system", the red battery light and the computer beeping noise all go off at the same time, and this happens very frequently.
Does anyone know how to disable the computer "beep" (this is the same beep you get when the fuel hits 50 miles to empty, this is NOT the seatbelt chime or the headlights on chime). Any help is appreciated.
Is your truck still under warranty? If so, I'd say your biggest problem is that you got a dealer that cannot resolve your problem!
Are there any other symptoms besides the indicators? Like dim headlights or interior lights, hard-starts, accessories not working? If so, it could be an electrical problem that could get be pretty involved for a non-mechanic or it could be something as simple as a short or a blown fuse. I can work on most anything on a car or truck, but I am just plain-old scared to mess with anything electrical except stereos.
I recommend taking it to another dealer first, then if they can't fix it I would make them pay for an electrical specialist to take a look at it, that is if you are still under warranty... If not, you may just have to bite the bullet.

onespeed, its a problem a couple people on this board and others have dealt with - its a short somewhere in the system, everything operates perfectly, alternator tests fine, etc. The truck has 40k miles on it, and i have an extended ford branded warranty to 75k, which has not even been needed for this issue since i first identified the problem before the original warranty expired. I am going in again tomorrow morning (probably for another new alternator that wont fix the problem) and I will keep going in until its fixed. In the mean time i just want to make the ****** bell go away because its driving me crazy.

Had the same problem. There was a screw loose on the Batt connection. Seems like it wasn't the terminal clamp itself but a screw next to it for some reason. Didn't look loose, didn't feel loose but when I tightened it, it went away about 5000mi ago and hasn't been back.
