Question Blackstone oil Analysis

I was just wondering how many of you have had one done. I just sent in my first sample so I am curious as to what kind of info you get back. Seems like a really good deal to know what is going on inside your engine. Feedback anyone?

I've been sampling and semding to Blackstone for over 3 years now. Great preventative maintnence IMHO.

Excellent reports and baseline comparisons with like PSD, mileage, etc.

Been doing it for over two years myself. They recommended I run up to 6500 miles. My engine bearly wears using Delo 400!

Been doing it too for about 2 years. Just switched to Delo from Rotella, no results yet, but did notice truck ran quieter with Delo. Truck seems to like Delo best, followed by Rotella, then Delvac 1300. I sample because I'm paranoid about air box leak and "dusting" my engine.

That's probably because Delo contains a Molybdenum disulfide additive.Great stuff! Does a lot for your engine. Clean oil also has that quieting effect beacuse without all those large clumps of carbon it flows smoother. HEUI injectors don't
complain as much!

I see, looks like a lot of you use it. How often do you recommmend sending in a sample? quarterly? yearly? every oil change? (spendy, but less than $10k for engine!)

I did 4 consecutive oil change samples to establish my engine's baseline. Now i'll probably do it every third oil change or so, just to make sure my engine is still doing good.

At $20 a sample (you can get them cheaper if you buy bulk up front, 10 i think?).. A LOT less!!

A good friend of mine just had to replace his engine (gasser)because of antifreeze getting in the oil. If he did UOA's he would have detected it.

Thanks for the reminder. I've got 3K on the new bypass system and it's time to find out whether the Delo is holding up. Gotta pull a sample. Something to do Saturday.

Blackstone for the oils, Polaris for the coolant.

This brings up a related subject:

What do you tell the clerk at the post office when they ask "What's inside the package"? Of course, they can read that it's going to a "lab".

I just smile and say, "A specimen".

i use either blackstone or butler labs. butler labs has the better testing equipment and is setup to test for antimony.

Being from Canada,Eh!!! How many Kilometers do you fellas think i can go between engine oil changes on my 2000 PSD 165000Km on the ODometer, with mininmal towing and mainly hiway driving? Most guys here are doing oil and filter at every 5- 6 thousand Kilometers! Looks like i may go up to maybe 7500Km Safely. Maybe a shop here can do a analysis?

What would antimony tell you that tin wouldn't?

well some oil makers are using additives which show up as coolant in the oil. the butler test goes further and can break those additves down into their chemical properties and tell you what they are and to make sure they are not coolant. they show up as sodium in tests, some show 285 ppm which looks like a massive coolant leak, but could jsut be a additive. mobil is the main company doing this to their oils.
