The 460 will bolt up to your transmission yes, but there is a little more to it but it isnt too bad as you can get everything you need from l&l products in there engine swap kits. Mounts, oil pan, headers, clutch, accesory drive mounts etc, plus you get some some extra things from them. Quite a few people have done it and i havent heard anything bad about there products. Edit: forgot there site http://www.landlproducts.com
you will have to cut a section out of the frame on the right side, for the exhaust manifold. I pulled a 460 out of my 78 and built a 400 to back in.
Just get the right right side manifold....Or Custom Headers..I had a truck that someone did that to...Looked sickening.....aggghhhh...I paid like $500 total for my headers for my Bronco but worth every cent.......Nickel Plated chrome lifetime war..3/8 flanged sold with pipe flanges ......
A 77 highboy with a 400??? A 400 would mean that it is a 77.5 model and not a highboy. Check the information on "Highboys" in the FAQ thread at the top of this 73-9 forum. Of course someone may have switched an engine out sometime over the years.

Some early 77 Highboys did come with the 351m/400, there are a few users on FTE who own them. I looked at one when I was looking for a truck a few years ago, 400, C6, Divorced NP205 with 36's on it and no lift.

You mean "late" highboys... They were discontinued in 77 with the mid-year introduction of the 77.5 model (early 78). Ford does seem to make do with parts in stock at times. The round headlight grille used on the 78 custom is an example.
except he's absolutely wrong on the bellhousings, there are 3 diferent bellhousings.
a shallow 351m/400 bellhousing that needs a 1/2"-7/16" spacer and requires a 11" FE flywheel and diaphram clutch. you can only use this bellhousing with a pre-79 460 with an internal ballance crank
a deep HD 400 bellhousing that you can get away without using a spacer and a 11" FE diaphram clutch or a spacer and a 12" 460 diaphram clutch
a real 460 bellhousing that you can use a 12" 460 long arm clutch and needs only a stock block plate.
all 3 have the same bellhousing bolt pattern

no I mean highboys. early 77's with tank in cab, narrow frames, driveshaft between the trans and Tcase, and multi leaf front springs.
pre-Y20,001 not 77.5, not 78
highboys with 400's. I know exactly what I mean.
