Headlight problem?

I have a 2000 Excursion that I'm having headlight problems on. Sometimes they work fine other times they will be real dim. Then there are times they won't work at all. It's something to do with the plug (socket) that actually plugs into the bulb. You can wiggle the wires and the lights will come back on.

Has anyone else had this problem? Do I need to buy new sockets from ford? I have had time to look at it close, it was dark this morning when I finally figured out it was something to so with the wiring.

Thanks,
Delos

Well,
there is obviously a bad connection going on there. It could be in 1 of 2 places, where the wire is connected to the plug, or where the plug is connecting to the socket. Lets hope its where the plug connects to the socket. I'd first start by spraying some compressed air in there to see if there is any gunk in side the plug, then a little Wd-40 and put it all back together and see if that helps. If you plug it back in and there is a solid connection with the plug and you can wiggle the wire and have them dim... its the connection from the plug to the wire. I am not yet familiar with exactly how the plug looks and works (just got my truck a month ago ) but you could probably re-solder the wire to the plug. If your not feeling to eager or if you just want a plug and play fix, I believe there are wire up-grades that should not only fix your problem but also give you better light output at the same time. I'll see if I can't find anything to help you out...

When I got home today I pulled the plugs. 3 wires, I figure one is for highbeam, one for lowbeam and one for ground. The center terminal in the plug has been getting hot, the plastic is melted and burnt some. I know I'm going to have to replace the plugs (both sides have been hot), but if there is an upgrade for it I'd like to know about it.

Thanks,
