Rear-End help
Have the original rear-end but the engine sounds like its struggling....put in 12 gallons in the poly tank Sunday and was on empty today....not making a lot of sense to me and it was a lot highway miles....What do you recommend I get for the old dana 44???? I found a 9" rear from a 71/72 Ford truck but does it bolt right up or do I have to do some modification on it....put in 3.73 gears or get the 9" rear?

Ditto to nixer's response. That is exactly what I have done. If you are interested in better mileage I would get the ratio down into the 3.00 or 3.25 range. My 9 inch is from a 71-72 F100 with 3.70 gears however I am running an AOD so my highway ratio will be closer to 2.50.

Gentlemen,
I have an 85 Cougar AOD underneath and will this mate up exactly or do I have to do some fandango with it.....$175 bucks complete from the yard....gimme some info Forders.....
