I am planning on trying to save up to rebuild the motor in my 90 F150 but have no clue where to start. It leaks oil and has over 200,000 miles on it. I want to get it back in tip-top shape BEFORE it quits running to save haveing to purchase a new engine. How much would a slight improvement rebuild cost? (Slight meaning like a hotter cam maybe just some extra ponies.)
A basic rebuild is between $1,500.00 to $1,800.00, but if you go w/ a Blue Print & Ballance & a Minimal Port & Polish you can expect to dish out about $2,500.00 & up.
Wow.... For that kind of money I might just have to get a bigger engine. I have seen 351's around here going for only a grand. Maybe it is time to do the ever infamous swap. But in the same hand I have mixed feelings about starting something that big like a swap. Any input?
It sounds like you cash burning a hole in your pocket. If you fix the oil leaks, you'll have a 300 with only 200k miles on it. c'mon, that's just barely broken in! You can get another 150k out of it if you're nice to it.

Ahhh, but what you are not realizing is that the parts that are being used for the rebuild are the Top of the Line ones, not your Ordinary, everyday run of the mile over the counter stuff.
You pay for what you get if you wish for it to Last for Twice as long as notmal.
Plus you'll Not get the Longivity, nor the performance out of a 351 that you'll acheive from a 300.
