Question Another Tire And Wheel Question

I have recently purchased a 2000 f-150 ext cab / Lariat. 4.6.... (I had a 1997 f-150 reg cab 4.6) I have noticed that the speedometer seemed to be off ( speed vs. rpm ) so I figured that I would start with the tires. The sticker inside of the door says that the truck is supposed to have 275/60R17sl tires on 17 x 7.5 inch rims....right now it has 265/70R16 tires on 16 x 7 inch rims. I need to get new tires soon, should I be trying to find some 17 inch rims at the same time,or is there not enough difference in the sizes to matter..any and all input welcome....thank you.

There should only be about 1/2 -3/4 " difference between the two tire sizes with the 265/70R16 being slightly larger. This will make the speedo/odometer slightly off but shouldn't make a big difference. I stepped up in tire size about 1 3/4 " and my speedo/odometer were off by exactly 1/10 mi. With the larger tire my speedo/odometer register .9 for each mile travelled so that when it says I am travelling 55 mph I am actually travelling 60.5 mph.Yours should not be nearly so drastic.

I wouldnt worry alot about it, I am guessing it would maybe be 3mph off or so.

The nice thing about 16" wheels, that there are more tire selections to make and is much cheaper than the 17" series.
