Well I have been kicking around the idea of having a bigger truck.
skinng on the truck 92 F250 Auto 4x4 with 3.73 gears 108,000 miles.
to use to haul some stuff around. Found this one close by Truck auction and thinking about buying it.
My Main use would be for hauling wood home in the fall then having this serve as the back up vechile for the winter months. My 87 Ranger with the 302 seems to run fine all summer long and then when she starts turning cold out it wants to takes time off from being the DD. This winter it has been the Clutch and now Head Gasket that have side lined for half the winter. I would like to start the restore process on my 78 f150 Ford and once that begins it will no longer be around to pick up the DD slack. So I am thinking of pretting up the 78 and making that a less of a work vechile.
So this would have weekend duty and be pressed into a DD if needed.
My DD routine is 2 miles to work and then home for lunch and restoking the wood stove takes 10 minutes. If truck was DD it can sit in a garage heated "at night" at 40-45 give or take would drive to work in the morning sit "outside" for 4 hours get started to go home for lunch and adding wood to the fire and back to work for the afternoon.
Just wondering how long they can sit out in the cold and still start decent?
Weekends would be hauling the ATV out the the trails sit there for 6 hours or so and then be started to make the trip home again.
I can keep it pluged in at home and the garage is usually warm so not worried about the morning starts just the days when the temp is 10-20 and she has to sit in the parking lot for a few hours before being started again.
sorry for the long post.
just wondering about opions on this.
The Wife has a dream of having a Powerstroke some day and I thought this might be a good entry level Deisel to start off with and have around for a year or 2.
sublime out.

the thing that scares me about the auction is that the person that listed it has absolutely no idea about the truck. "there is a trailer brake, but I THINK ITS DISCONNECTED??? and then there is the comment about the trans, and it needs an adjustment. something ain't rite. the mileage is not a big worry, as long as the truck was properly maintained. the concern is the trans and whether the coolant PH levels was kept up or not.
Does the guy know what he has ......info reads a diesel then lists a 5.8 gasser engine, has a PSD front bumper. A Carfax check of the serial number shows 10 entries could be different owners or states registered ???? Gooseneck plate plus 2 pluggins sounds like a hauler of some sort........ I would definitely want more pictures before paying his price for a REG cab........
yea the nice thing about this is the truck is only 30 miles away so I can drive over and look at it in person I just have to find the time. I have a church meeting tonight, Fire Meeting tomorrow night and then Fire Cheifs retirment party on Friday. Saturday is a b-day party so now I'm on to sunday if I wanna go look at the truck. by that time the bidding on it will be over the 3K mark that my budget will allow. but I might go look to look that way I will know more about a truck the next time around.
If I due go look at the truck will know more then. Also I will inquire about the glow plugs when they was changed and the brand that is in there now.
that tranny shift not right line scare's me about it though. but you don't find many trucks in WI that are that old and no rust showing.
thanks for the replay's guy's I have learned alot about these trucks in the last 2 day's by just going back through the forum was up to page 27 at one time.
I believe eBay doesn't have the Diesel in their system and you can't leave the engine size blank that's why he listed the 5.8. I've seen this mentioned on other eBay listings.
I'd pass, the E4OD is a turd of a transmission. And this line is bogus "Transmission has a hesitation due to improper adjustment." The E4OD is an electronic transmission and has no adjustments. Since it is acting up then either it's on the way out or one or more of the sensors are.
If you're determined to buy it then I'd suggest taking it to a transmission shop first and see what they tell you. You may save yourself a $3,000 repair. If the owner won't let you do that then there's a reason.
Okay, after posting I realize I wasn't 100% accurate, the transmission itself doesn't adjust, but the TPS and the gear selector sensor (I forget the acronym) do have adjustments.
Best have it checked before buying anyway.
i have manual glow plug controller and i can leave mine un pulged during the winter all night and push the button for 10 sec and it starts right up but mine is a 86 6.9
