problems with truck

well i did't put the aftermarket tach in yet and i got a factory cluster with a tach and its from the same year and i put it in with the speedo that was in the cluster when i bought it in and it will idle up but when i push in on the clutch and shift in to 1st or reverse it wants to die and it sputters but i put my factory cluster back in it and it worked fine and i put the new one with a tach back in it with my speedo (thought the little millege computer was killing it) and it wants to die again is there any thing i can do or is it just better to put the factory cluster that came in my truck back in it and put the aftermarket tach in
its a 95 f150 with 4.9 and 5 spd and the new cluster i got was from a 95 i know it is cause i pulled it out of the truck

now i cant get it to run with factory cluster just wants to die when put in gear and let out on clutch and just sputters and dies

ANY IDEAS

did you have the battery disconnected when you were playing around the dash area?

any crossed or pinched wires?

This is actually a pretty cool upgrade if you can get it to work.
I did the upgrade to my truck and it wasn't that hard.

You really need to have a Haynes repair manual to view the wiring diagram(s) for the two connectors (that plug into the instrument cluster) that you'll have to fiddle with.

Without being long winded here.....you only should need to change the yellow/white wire from connector ("B" pin# 6) to connector ("A" pin# 5) in your truck.

If I remember correctly, I had to change out some other wires to be compatible with the donor bronco cluster that I used.

Get a Haynes manual and look closely at the pin outs for the instrument cluster.

That should get you going.

Good luck and let us know what happened.

Bob

well i got it working and i figured out what my problem was the speedo was killing the engine and when i would hook a speedo up it would kill the engine and i could drive with the speedo unpluged it was fine but that bothered me to much so i got another cluster and switched out the speedo and everything works great but my only problem with the new one is that it shows about 75 thousand miles more then my old speedo and i called around to see if i could get it reprogrammed and the ford places said they couldn't do it and they would sell me a new speedo for $300 and a couple of speedo shops said they could do it for about $250 to $275 so i think im gonna keep the high millege on my speedo
