Brake running lights

hey guys:
my brake runiing lights were working fine a couple of days ago and mnow they do not come on anymore....my blinkers, brake and headlights work. everything except for the running brake lights for at night....im putting new brake lights on the back and am wondering if anyone knows a possible lead for me before i tear it apart.....Thanks 62Cole

I think you mean the tail lights? There is one wire that runs the tail lights for the rear of the truck. The second wire at the socket is the turn signal/brake light power(same wire does both). It is likely a poor connection at the firewall area, seems like there is a three wire molded connector that runs the rear lights with a yellow, a green and a brown wire. The brown wire is the tail lights. Check for power at that point and at the back light socket. Colors might not be right, but you get the idea.

Also check the ground as I have seen a loose ground cause all sorts of wierd problems that you wouldn't expect to come from a ground problem.
