Home built T/C lock.
Locate the T/C lockup wire, either at the tranny, or the harness plug, and tap into it with a switch to manually force ground, which will lock the T/C.
The wire is Violet/Yellow.
Spot #1. On the passenger side of the tranny. Black plug.
Spot #2. Drivers side wheel well. Forward most connector. On 1999 to 2001, it is pin #6. Not sure is 2002 and 2003 are the same, but more than likely they are.
Use a scotch lock connector and tie into the Violet/Yellow wire, (DO NOT CUT IT, TAP IT!), with a 20 gauge stranded, and run it inside the cab.
Connect it to one side of a SPST switch, (on-off), and connect the other side of the switch to ground. When ever the switch is "ON" the T/C will lock.
CAUTION! Never lock the T/C below 15-20 mph or you can stall the engine.
You can also add a light to the circuit so you'll know when it is on, one wire from the light to 12v. and the other to the Violet/Yellow wire side of the switch.
it is all plug (splice) and play, it took me about 2 hours to do, because i had to remove the gauge pod and the top gauge because of the LED mount location. plus the wire that was mentioned above did NOT work, so i had to look through the main harness with about 40-50 wires in it. luckily the 4th or 5th wire i tapped to (there were many violet/yellow tracer wires in the bundle was the one i needed. a test is to have it in neutral and flick the switch and it should light, and the TC has a distinct sound.
One more thing, more than likely it will cause your "OD OFF" light that's on the end of the shifter to blink. This is normal. You are falsely grounding the TC, so the PCM thinks there is a problem. There is a work around to keep the OD light from flashing, I've done it and so has guzzle, but it involves a bit more wiring and the use of a DPDT relay.
Can I wire this before i have done any work to my trany?
Yes, you can do it at any time. Unless you're having warranty work done to it, then I'd wait. The dealer probably wouldn't look too highly on you having a switch to manually lock your TC.

Would it effect the engine warranty? I have 60000 miles now.

It might. If they see that you can manually lock the TC, they might think you would be lugging the engine or somehow causing damage otherwise. These engines are expensive pieces, and from what I understand, they will avoid warranty work if they can find a way to blame you for it. But, I don't know for sure that it would hurt your engine warranty.
