EGR valves

I've got a '93 F-150 4x4 with the 5.0l engine. Within the past month, the check engine light came on and has not gone back off. I took it to a friend with a code scanner and the computer read "EGR valve not opening." Does anyone know why this would be happening and what can be done to correct it? Do i need to get a new one or is it something else?

Yeah, there's the valve that sticks, the position sensor on top of it that goes bad, vacuum lines that leak, a vacuum actuator that can go bad, etc, etc, etc. You can test the first two things with a hand vacuum pump and a multimeter.
