I just took my 35s off my K-30 and put them on my F-250 and guess what- I need poweer steering. I talked with a number of yards around here and am having trouble finding a unit off a 78 or 79. One guy mentioned putting a Saginaw unit on . He thought it would work. Anybody heard of this swap? Also I think I heard someone say there was a guy from Iowa that made a kit for the old F-250.
Thanks in advance
Dave
I probably should have mentioned that my F-250 is a 1970 and is 4x4 with a 4 sp. trans. Also I'm thinking about switching the 360 for a 390. What is the last year the 390 was built????
Thanks
Dave
I did the power steering upgrade your talking about on my 73 F250 4X4 and the nice thing about the 78-79 setup is that it bolts right on with a few holes drilled and a backing plate. The main problem I would think about is that the steering arm goes under the frame but above the leaf springs. I guess you could mount any box lower than the leaf springs or try to find one that hits the right spot.
Or you could buy a new / rebuilt box from a parts house or LMC Truck.
As for the 360 to 390, the best approach is to get new 390 car pistons, rings, reconditioned 390 rods and crank. They will drop right in and then you'll have a 390.
