I have a kwik filter, 3 inch downpipe, 4 inch exhaust, my question is, would changing to a straight pipe instead of muffler get much more turbo flutter? Thanks Jeff
The exhaust note gets a lot deeper with a 4" straightpipe. The turbo flutter is a little more pronounced, but it gives it a very distinctive "bad boy" sound. I like it.
Thanks for responding, I was beginning to think nobody, had an answer for thie one. That will be the next mod on the list. jcab

How much louder does actually get. Is it to the point of being obnoxious? I already have a motorcycle for that.
Depends on where you're standing. Inside the cab it is louder, but not obnoxiously so....IMO. Outside the cab it is loud when you have your foot in it. Not much different at idle...just deeper.
I did the muffler delete. There is quite a difference in sound, especially when cold and the cold idle kicks up the rpm. Sounds like a jet getting ready to take off. YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!
I have the same results cookie88 and pmasley...My truck sounds awesome when I start it up first thing in the morning when it's nice and cold. But it's not obnoxious (at least inside the cab) when driving. I'm thinking about cutting off my 4" chrome tip and putting a 5" one on there...Anybody ever done this and if so does it make much difference?
the only way it would be obnoxiously loud would be if it dumped in front of the rear tire, straight out. and then it would only bother the ricer in the right lane with the lowering kit, and the open window and passenger compartment full of black smoke when you stomp on it.!! been there, done that.
thats exactly why i did that! sounds unbelievable. just gotta make sure you extend the tip past the tires a bit (laterally) so the exhaust doesnt ruin them (or make a mess of the lettering!)
Fuel mileage what's that? I noticed a bit of an increase but I also did the chip at the same time. High MPG= light right foot....Low MPG= heavy right foot. Do the math, and see how your numbers are.
I just put a 4" strait pipe on my '97 3 weeks ago. once i got over the sound and started driving like I normally do again I had an increase in milage. prior to the exhaust the best milage I got was 16.5 on pure highway driving going about 75. now I get almost 17 for my daily driving.

p.s. I cant wait to get a TW chip next. it will be a couple months down the road.
Straight pipe sounds awesome mines 4" no muffler exit behnd the wheel has that crazy loud woosh sound when cold and a real nice bark at about 2700 rpm an up thinks this summer i am gonna dump it out before the rear tire just to **** of them ricers lol
I have a 4 inch straight exhaust and it exits into a 5 inch chrome tip. It sounds AWESOME and there are many uses...I'll give you one example
The other day there was a bunch of war protestors lining the street in the town where I live. They must have come in from San Francisco or something because we do not have those types here.
Anyways, there is a stop light (the only one in town) about 50 yards in front of where they were "standing". I got her all wound up and then right when I got to them I stomped on it. Those fruitcakes almost jumped out of their bermuda shorts. One of them jumped back and almost fell over into a bush that was lining the sidewalk.
My girl friend is not one to like loud and/or fast, but when she saw the protestors jump like scared children, she even got a kick out of it.
Anyways, I agree with the others here. It is louder when you get on it, but man it sounds sooooo nice.
