Transmission problem

Hi everyone...
Have a 1998 Supercab 4x4 Ranger with the 4.0 v6 and 5R55E automagic overdrive...the problem I'm having is that between second and third gear at ligt throttle the engine will rev up then drop into 3rd, almost like its neutral dropping every shift...after the truck is in gear it doesn't slip and at mild to heavy throttle there is not problem... If I put the truck into "limp home mode" by unplugging the TPS or the MASS air meter the truck shifts fine, (Very firm due to the higher pressures but fine). My thoughs were a leaking seal either on the front or intermediate band survo but I'm not positive on any of that. Truck isn't new, has 116,000 miles on it, fluid was flushed at 80,000 so its due for another change, but the fluid isn't black, just slightly darker red, and doesn't smell burnt. Any help or opinions would be great.
Thanks,
-Phil

At what speed does it shift into third gear under light acceleration?

Cuda's right, what speed is it doing this? And is the normal shifting speed? What if you run the truck through the gears manually? I.e. take off in first, shift to second, shift to third (or is it D in the Rangers? I'm used to the Silverado, I drive a stick). Does it do it then? Change the fluid when you get the chance.

EDIT: And great job trying to figure out first and bringing us useful information to begin with!

Could be a leak valve body gasket, that seems to be a common problem.
