I recently contacted a local Ford Dealer in Pittsburgh area via E mail. I was contacted by salesperson via E mail and asked him to give me a bottom line price on a truck that was listed on their web site. I have no trade and wanted to see where I would be at payment wise. The salesperson told me I would have to come in to get price. Shouldn't the dealer be able to give you a price on a new vechile with no trade via e mail?
As long as they're not deliberately misleading you, a dealer can quote a price any way they want. They can give it to you straight over the Internet (like I do), or they can play the "carrot on a stick" game, trying to get you into the showroom. I'm a salesman, with a pretty decent reputation here on FTE. Tell me exactly what you want, and I'll give you my bottom-line price. You can buy it from me, or you can use my price to try and get a better deal from your local dealer.

I can attest to Jeff's post. I bought a truck from him recently, and his quote was the same exact amount on the final purchase agreement when the truck was delivered.
I ordered my truck from overseas through Ford Direct. I sent out four or five emails for quote's, basically like you, the lowest price wins.
One dealer never replied, another called my wife at home and wanted her to come up to the showroom to talk with her. She told him to email me and we never heard from him again. Two dealers ended up getting down to the end where I picked the best deal.
It was pretty painless with the help from the guys on here. It really helped reading all the posts and advice - 1956Mark, Polarbear and everyone else provided while researching the truck I wanted to buy.
I did have my wife run around and take pictures of some trucks to help pick a color. That made it easier to pick a color.
I would say if the salesman wants you to come in for a price he's not the one you want to buy from.
I emailed about 20 dealers in my area just before I figured out the whole FTE deal. I think 5 or 6 responded and only two answered my question. I just basically told them what kind of truck I was going to buy and wanted to know what dollar figure from invoice they could sell the truck for. Two actually gave me the dollar amount from invoice, the others needed me to call with more information. Hope they are not still waiting for my call To this day I still get emails from three of them.
Admin note: Ask users to use the FTE email system. It will transmit your correct return address in the reply-to field. Post "do<!-- -->t com" only trips our spam filters and causes more work for us. Thanks.
1956MarkII do you have a Canadian counterpart?
