Help with guages

The water temp sending unit is right behing and to thr right od the distributer. Pull the wire off and ground it to the block. If the guage needle peggs or if the idiot light comes on, the sending unit is bad. If no movement, the guage is bad. I would then change both the guage and sending unit if the guage is bad. If the guage is good, replace it. They cost about $5.00 at the parts store.
As for the amp guage. check the wiring behind the alternator and/or at the voltage regulator if you have one. I am not sure how to self test the guage.
