C4 tranny kit
Hey guys, i have what looks to be a 79 bronco drivetrain in my ranger, but the C4 has a shift kit in it, I'm looking for a stock c4 seperator plate (valve body separator) that might have been replaced in the kit, the gears are entirely too low for the shift kit and it's REALLY jerky! I'd like to go BACK to the stock feeling shift. can you tell me where to find a stock plate?? thanks

Interesting question...I am rebuilding a C4 now. The old unit I had needed both input and output shafts so basically, a basket case. I went to local junkyard and bought a core. I picked out the best looking unit and got lucky...a really good rebuildable unit. In your case, the core unit would be an option at not low but reasonable cost (I paid $50)or call some of the local trans rebuilders. THey probably have some spare cores laying around. Make sure to ask for a post 1969 unit. C4's design changed after 69...casing and spline counts on shafts. Be safe and go with a post 69 unit even though valve body plate may or may not be different? I plan to install a shift kit (with a 3.0 rear gear). Plan to use RV type setting. It should work fine.

Hey Dave, after I sent my previous message I had another thought. Since my original C4 is sitting on shelf to be used for parts....I can part with the valve plate at a modest fee...cheaper for you than buying a core. I will sell you entire valve body for $25 if you want it (stock as far as I know, I never changed it). Let me know if interested.
