4-barrel Throttle Assembly

I have a 59 f100 w/223, Clifford 4-barrel intake and a Edelbrock 500cfm carb. I know...It seems like way too much carb...Well don't sweat me, I need every bit of it. The carb sits with the linkage toward the firewall...Air Screws point toward the driverside fender.

So....I have a mid 80's V8 throttle cable "Which is the perfect length" and the pedal assembley as well. The problem being that the pedal is designed for a differant firewall and as such the angle the bracket is at is not conducive at all. Also it looks as though it may not have enough throw/travel for the carb linkage.

Is there a better throttle setup option that I have overlooked??? Yea, I can hack up what I have and MAKE it work. I just don't want the thing to be all cobbled together. If anyone has pictures of what they did that would be a HUGE help...

Thanks in advance.

Most carburetor linkages have more than one position to mount the throttle cable. If you have insufficient travel try mounting the throttle cable closer to the center of the carburetor linkage. I have been known to drill an extra hole in the linkage below the stock mounting hole to get full travel.

Vern,
I should have explained a lil better...The cable itself has a limited amount of travel. So regardless where I mount it I will have the same cable travel.

Thanks alot for the reply. Can't wait to get this sorted out properly.

Brad,

I guess I didn't explain that too well. The carburetor linkage rotates in an arc. The closer you attach the cable to the bottom of the linkage the shorter the arc is required to move it to wide open throttle. So, by shortening the arc, the cable needs less movement to effect full travel of the linkage. It's sort of like choking up on a bat. The more you choke up on it the shorter the arc is when you swing it. Does that make sense?

Vern,
Thanks for the added explanation....Yea, I see what you are sayin' now...

Now all I have to do is figure out how to best make the pedal assembly on the floorboard mount up proper and I can press on.

Thanks,

Brad
